I help people with big ideas say (and write) what they actually mean.

I’m Justine Sones, a communications strategist who specializes in long-form written content.

That means I help leaders and organizations take the things they know and believe—the messy, nuanced, hard-to-summarize parts—and turn those ideas into writing that’s clear, credible, and genuinely worth someone’s attention.

This isn’t the kind of writing that just “performs.” it builds trust.

let's work together!

If you’re here because you’ve read my writing, welcome!

My work tends to orbit trust, meaning, community, power, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we owe each other.

If you want the most current work, that lives on Substack and LinkedIn. This website is the home base—the place where you can understand what I do, and how to work with me.

More about me ➡

I started my career in massage therapy, and I spent years paying attention to what people don’t always say out loud: stress, pain, constraint, coping, and the stories we build to survive our lives. That work trained my brain in a way I didn’t fully appreciate until later. I got very good at:

  • Listening for what’s underneath the words

  • Noticing patterns

  • Identifying the real problem (not the decoy problem)

  • Helping people choose what matters and leave the rest

Eventually my work moved from bodies to language, but the core stayed the same: Translate complexity into something livable and true.

I’m at my best when:

→ Your work is meaningful but hard to explain

→ Your message is strong but your output is inconsistent

→ Your team has talent but your process is chaos

→ You’re trying to communicate in a high-stakes environment where clarity and tone matter

My job isn’t to make you sound polished, it’s to make you sound like you—on your best day—with a strategy to support and sustain your efforts:

Communications strategy

Positioning, messaging, narrative clarity, editorial direction.

The goal is simple: when you sit down to write, you don’t have to reinvent yourself every time.

Long-form writing

Essays, Articles, founder letters, speeches, op-eds, thought leadership.

I help you create evergreen “pillar piece” content that can repurposed—so you don’t have to create everything from scratch.

AI-enabled content systems

I help teams use AI effectively—without sounding generic, losing voice, or lowering standards.

That looks like practical workflows that include briefing, drafting, review loops, voice guidance, templates, prompt libraries, and team training—so publishing doesn’t depend on one person having a good brain day.

AI is not the strategy, it’s the support. Because quality work still requires judgment.

A few things I believe:

Clarity is a form of respect.

Consistency beats bursts of inspiration.

Strong communication doesn’t come from certainty. It comes from honesty, structure, and care.

People can tell when you’re performing.

The middle ground is not weakness. It’s where real thinking lives.

I’m collaborative, I’m direct, and I care a lot about getting it right.

Most projects follow a rhythm like this:

  1. Context + intake (what’s true, what’s risky, what matters)

  2. Strategy (angle, structure, narrative through-line)

  3. Drafting (human-led, AI-supported where it genuinely helps)

  4. Refinement (voice, accuracy, clarity, tone)

  5. Optional repurposing (LinkedIn-ready pieces, excerpts, summaries)

If you want someone to “just write it” without asking hard questions, I’m not your person.

But If you want writing that holds up under pressure, we’ll get along.

Tidbits About Justine

  • “Sones” is pronounced like “Jones”

  • I love (love, LOVE) Taylor Swift

  • I live on the West Coast of Canada with my husband, our two boys, three very big dogs, two crested geckos, and a murder of ~13 crows

  • I can’t live without dark roast coffee, nachos, and carbonated water; the bubblier, the better

  • I love to read, and thanks to my visual-spatial processing speed, I can get through a LOT of information very quickly

  • My nickname is 'Granny De Boer' because I am notorious for falling asleep on the couch when we have friends over

  • My favourite ways to sweat are on a bike, trekking up a mountain, playing volleyball, or laying on the beach
